About the Organization

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), headed by the Prime Minister of India, is the apex body for Disaster Management in India. Setting up of NDMA and the creation of an enabling environment for institutional mechanisms at the State and District levels is mandated by the Disaster Management Act, 2005. NDMA is mandated to lay down the policies, plans and guidelines for Disaster Management. India envisions the development of an ethos of Prevention, Mitigation, Preparedness and Response.

Job Description/Responsibilities

Bio-Conservation Professional (Consultants, Senior Consultants, and Lead Consultants) will be deployed at different levels based on the complexity of the assignment. These experts will provide technical guidance to support ecosystem-based approaches in disaster management planning and operations. The roles are designed to reflect different levels of responsibility and leadership:

• Consultants will assist with field-based biodiversity and ecosystem assessments, community engagement, and local-level program support.
• Senior Consultants will lead the development of conservation strategies, advise on project implementation, and provide capacity-building support.
• Lead Consultants will offer strategic direction, oversee multi-stakeholder projects, and guide policy integration at national and international levels.

Education Qualification/Required Skills & Experience

Education:

• Education: Master’s degree in Environmental Science, Ecology, Conservation Biology, Forestry, Natural Resource Management, or a related field. - Certifications: Certification in ecosystem-based adaptation, biodiversity conservation, or environmental impact assessment would be an added advantage.

Experiences:

• Consultant: 3–7 years of experience in biodiversity conservation, ecosystem management, or disaster-environment linkages.
• Senior Consultant: 8–12 years of experience in technical leadership, ecosystembased DRR, capacity building, and inter-agency coordination.
•  Lead Consultant: More than 12 years of experience in strategic planning, high-level policy advisory, ecosystem governance, and international engagement.
