About the Organization

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), headed by the Prime Minister of India, is the apex body for Disaster Management in India. Setting up of NDMA and the creation of an enabling environment for institutional mechanisms at the State and District levels is mandated by the Disaster Management Act, 2005. NDMA is mandated to lay down the policies, plans and guidelines for Disaster Management. India envisions the development of an ethos of Prevention, Mitigation, Preparedness and Response.

Job Description/Responsibilities

Flood Mitigation Professionals (Consultants, Senior Consultants, and Lead Consultants) will contribute to the planning, design, and implementation of flood mitigation strategies, focusing on both structural and non-structural measures. These experts will support disaster risk management authorities at all levels to prevent, prepare for, and respond to flood events more effectively.

• Consultants will support technical analysis, field assessments, and implementation of flood mitigation activities.
• Senior Consultants will lead risk assessments, project design, and coordination with technical agencies.
• Lead Consultants will provide strategic guidance, oversee large-scale mitigation planning, and align efforts with national and international standards.

Education Qualification/Required Skills & Experience

Education:

• Education: Master’s in Civil Engineering, Water Resources, Hydrology, Environmental Engineering, Disaster Management, or a related technical discipline.
• Certifications: Certification in flood modeling, hydraulic simulation, GIS for water management, or climate adaptation would be an added advantage.

Experiences:

• Consultant: 3–7 years of experience in flood risk reduction, hydrological modeling, infrastructure development, or emergency planning.
• Senior Consultant: 8–12 years of experience in program design, policy advisory, flood forecasting, or technical leadership in flood mitigation projects.
• Lead Consultant: More than 12+ years of experience in strategic planning, international coordination, infrastructure policy, and high-level technical advisory for flood resilience.
