About the Organization

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), headed by the Prime Minister of India, is the apex body for Disaster Management in India. Setting up of NDMA and the creation of an enabling environment for institutional mechanisms at the State and District levels is mandated by the Disaster Management Act, 2005. NDMA is mandated to lay down the policies, plans and guidelines for Disaster Management. India envisions the development of an ethos of Prevention, Mitigation, Preparedness and Response.

Job Description/Responsibilities

Soil Conservation Professionals (Consultants, Senior Consultants, and Lead Consultants) will contribute technical expertise in soil erosion control, watershed management, and sustainable landuse planning. They will work in coordination with agriculture, forest, and rural development departments to support land-based disaster mitigation and climate-resilient development initiatives.

• Consultants will assist in soil conservation fieldwork, training, and documentation.
• Senior Consultants will lead soil erosion assessments, watershed planning, and stakeholder engagement.
• Lead Consultants will provide national-level guidance on soil conservation strategy, policy integration, and inter-sectoral collaboration.

Education Qualification/Required Skills & Experience

Education:

• Education: Master’s degree in Soil Science, Environmental Science, Agronomy, Natural Resource Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
• Certifications: Certifications in watershed development, soil conservation engineering, sustainable land management, or ecosystem-based DRR would be an added advantage.

Experiences:

• Consultant: 3–7 years of experience in soil and water conservation, land restoration, agroecology, or watershed projects.
• Senior Consultant: 8–12 years of experience in leading soil conservation programs, technical advisory, inter-agency coordination, and capacity building.
• Lead Consultant: Over 12 years of experience in strategic planning, national policy advisory, program leadership, and international collaboration in land management and climate resilience.
