About the Organization

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), headed by the Prime Minister of India, is the apex body for Disaster Management in India. Setting up of NDMA and the creation of an enabling environment for institutional mechanisms at the State and District levels is mandated by the Disaster Management Act, 2005. NDMA is mandated to lay down the policies, plans and guidelines for Disaster Management. India envisions the development of an ethos of Prevention, Mitigation, Preparedness and Response.

Job Description/Responsibilities

Urban Planning Professionals (Consultants, Senior Consultants, and Lead Consultants) will be deployed at various levels to support the integration of disaster risk reduction, climate adaptation, and sustainability principles into urban planning processes. These experts will work with state and urban local bodies, planning agencies, and line departments to enhance city-level resilience.

• Consultants will assist in data collection, plan reviews, GIS mapping, and urban risk profiling.
• Senior Consultants will lead urban resilience assessments, zoning plan evaluations, and risksensitive urban design.
• Lead Consultants will provide high-level guidance for policy integration, master plan development, and inter-agency urban risk governance.

Education Qualification/Required Skills & Experience

Education:

• Education: Master’s degree in Urban Planning, Regional Planning, Town & Country Planning, Urban Design, or a related discipline.
• Certifications: Certification in GIS, disaster-resilient urban planning, climate adaptation planning, or infrastructure risk assessment would be an added advantage.

Experiences:

• Consultant: 3–7 years of experience in urban planning, GIS mapping, DRR mainstreaming, or smart city projects.
• Senior Consultant: 8–12 years of experience in urban design, municipal resilience planning, infrastructure risk assessment, or urban governance advisory.
• Lead Consultant: Over 12 years of experience in urban policy development, strategic advisory, national urban development programs, or international coordination.
