Job Description

Transport & Logistics Planning

  • Map commodity flows and analyze end-to-end logistics chains and multimodal options (rail-road-port-inland container depot (ICD)-multi-modal logistics park (MMLP)) to identify systemic bottlenecks.
  • Develop analytical frameworks to quantify modal-shift potential to rail and recommend first/last-mile and terminal access solutions.
  • Build advisory models for routing, scheduling, empty-container repositioning, and yard/terminal processes to recommend cost/emissions reductions.
  • Provide planning inputs on ICD/private freight terminals (PFT)/MMLP/warehouse design and operations as technical guidance.

Development of Tools, Frameworks & Ratings

  • Build decision-support tools/calculators (emission estimation tools, modal choice, etc.) and test them with users; iterate from beta to deployable versions.
  • Produce implementation guides/standard operating procedures (SOPs) and training materials to enable adoption by operators and shippers.

Surveys, Field Studies & Pilots

  • Design and monitor field surveys.
  • Conduct site visits and stakeholder consultations as and when required.

Documentation, Knowledge & Communications

  • Produce high-quality reports, policy briefs, technical manuals, and case studies; contribute to peer-reviewed and practitioner publications.
  • Create user guides for tools/ratings, prepare clear infographics and decks for non-technical audiences.
  • Publish CoE updates/notes for wider dissemination and donor/partner reporting.
  • Plan and facilitate industry roundtables, training, and workshops with key stakeholders.
  • Maintain minutes/action trackers and follow-ups.

Data, Digital & Policy Alignment (desirable)

  • Work with APIs/datasets to integrate decision tools; prototype dashboards and agree metadata/standards for interoperable sharing.
  • Track alignment with India-s National Logistics Policy, rail-freight initiatives, and relevant standards; translate policy into practical, facility-level steps and key performance indices.

Carbon Markets & Finance Enablement (desirable)

  • Translate decarbonization actions (rail shift, fuel switching, RE, efficiency) into credit-eligible methodologies and simple screening tools.
  • Draft project design notes/baselines, quantify mitigation, and map participation pathways in voluntary/Indian credit mechanisms; outline safeguards/co-benefits.

Education Qualification/Required Skills & Experience

  • Master-s in Transport Planning/Engineering- Logistics/Supply Chain- Urban/Regional Planning- Industrial Engineering- or Operations Research

Skills

  • Analytics & Modelling: Strong quantitative/qualitative skills; proficiency in Excel; working ability in R or Python preferred.
  • GIS & CAD: ArcGIS/QGIS- AutoCAD for network/terminal layouts; basic data visualisation.
  • Freight & Multimodal Know-how: Sound understanding of rail-road interfaces- ICDs/CFS- MMLPs- warehousing operations.
  • Emissions & Carbon Markets: Familiarity with emission accounting (GLEC- ISO 14064/IPCC)- activity-data methods- and carbon-credit concepts.
  • Tool/Framework Development: Comfort turning methods into checklists- calculators- dashboards- and SOPs.
  • Writing & Communication: Proven ability to write clear reports/policy briefs; confident facilitation with industry and government.
  • Mindset: Problem-solving- field-oriented- and comfortable with ambiguity and fast iteration.
