Job Description
We are looking for a passionate and driven Field Coordinator (Chikkaballapur) to lead efforts in sustainable agriculture and groundwater management. The person will collaborate closely with partner organisations, farmers, and government bodies to support innovative farming solutions, improve water access, and strengthen local institutions. Job Responsibilities
Crop Management & Sustainable Practices
- Plan, implement, and monitor sustainable farming practices with field teams and farmer groups.
- Promote diversified cropping models and innovative soil and water conservation techniques.
- Conduct farmer training sessions on bio-inputs, soil health, and moisture conservation.
Community & Institutional Engagement
- Build relationships with Gram Panchayats, small and marginal farmers, and community leaders to drive initiatives smoothly.
- Work with district and state agricultural departments to align projects with government programs.
- Support Janapara Foundation and FES in setting up and strengthening Borewell Water Users’ Cooperative Societies (BWUCS) and Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs) to empower local farmers.
Stakeholder Collaboration & Research Support
- Partner with agricultural universities, Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs), and researchers to bring local cropping system insights to farmers.
- Assist with on-the-ground research alongside WELL Labs and other stakeholders to improve agricultural practices.
- Document real-world challenges and successes to refine pilot projects and introduce new, effective technologies.
Groundwater Collectivisation and Water Management
- Develop strategies for groundwater sharing and collective management to ensure equal access for farmers.
- Facilitate workshops on sustainable groundwater use and conservation techniques.
- Support BWUCS in implementing efficient water-sharing mechanisms and long-term conservation plans.
Market Linkages and Service Centres Support
- Work with farmer organisations to improve collective marketing strategies.
- Strengthen the functioning of Bio-Resource Centers, Custom Hiring Centres, and Seed Centers to ensure farmers have access to essential services.
Government Liaison and Policy Influence
- Engage with government officials to leverage public schemes for farmers’ benefit.
- Contribute to policy discussions and innovative ideas that can shape agricultural reforms.
Monitoring, Evaluation, & Capacity Building
- Support research, data collection, and analysis to track project impact and outcomes.
- Prepare reports and case studies to refine strategies and inform decision-making.
- Coordinate specialised training programmes, including:
- Community Hydrology Training
- Content Creator Training
- Service Providers Training in Chikkaballapur
Education Qualification/Required Skills & Experience
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Agriculture, Rural Development, Environmental Science, or related fields.
- 3+ years of hands-on experience working with farmers, FPOs, or sustainable agriculture projects.
- Strong understanding of agroecology, water management, and soil conservation techniques.
- Experience working with government agencies, agricultural institutions, and farmer groups.
- Ability to lead training programs and workshops for farmers.
- Excellent communication and community engagement skills.
- Willingness to travel extensively across the Chikkaballapur district.
- Knowledge of Kannada is mandatory.
Additional Skills
- Experience in diversified cropping models like Akkadisalu or similar regenerative farming approaches.
- Familiarity with government schemes like Atal Bhujal, MGNREGA, PM-Kisan, and other agricultural subsidies.
- Knowledge of organic farming, bio-pesticides, and climate-resilient techniques.
- Skills in data collection, and monitoring and evaluation (M&E).
