Junior Forestry and Biodiversity Advisor

Job Responsibilities
- Support the implementation of the “Restore, Enhance, Conserve and Protect Forest and Tree Cover for NDC Implementation in India (RECAP4NDC)” project in Maharashtra. Coordinate and monitor field-level activities across identified project districts—Ahilyanagar, Chandrapur, Dhule, Jalgaon, Nandurbar, Nashik, Pune, Ratnagiri, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, and Yavatmal—in collaboration with consortium partners and consultants.
- Assist the Technical Advisor (Maharashtra) in coordination, advisory, and project-related tasks. Facilitate effective communication and collaboration with key stakeholders, including the State Forest Department, line departments, NGOs, civil society, and private sector actors. Ensure regular engagement between the Technical Advisor and stakeholders at both district and state levels.
- Support the development and management of contracts, including drafting tender documents, monitoring consultant deliverables, and facilitating reviews. Coordinate logistical arrangements for trainings, workshops, events, field visits for GIZ staff, consultants, and partners, ensuring alignment with project objectives and timelines.
- Contribute to documenting best practices, lessons learned, and success stories from the project. Assist in the development of technical and progress reports, operational plans, and support content creation for GIZ platforms, partner websites, and social media. Help develop communication and outreach materials to enhance project visibility and knowledge sharing.
- Support the design and implementation of qualitative research, including survey tools, field trials, and data analysis. Assist in identifying training needs and supporting capacity-building initiatives for government departments, local institutions, and private sector partners on forest landscape restoration, monitoring systems, and sustainable forest management.
Education Qualification/Required Skills & Experience
- The candidate must hold a graduate or postgraduate degree in Environmental Studies, Geography, Forestry, Agroforestry, Climate Change, Social Sciences (Economics, Political Science, Sociology) or other related subjects.
- At least 2 years of professional experience in forestry, agroforestry, agriculture, climate change and related projects and assignments. Experience in the State of Maharashtra will be an added advantage.
- Demonstrated experience in working forestry at landscape level, REDD+, carbon stock assessment of forest ecosystems, urban forestry, ecosystem services, climate change adaptation, and nature-based solutions.
- Demonstrated experience in stakeholder engagement. Experience in supporting national and/or state-level policies related to forestry will be an added advantage.
- Professional experience in the development context of climate change in the context of sustainable forest management, and environmental regulation is highly desirable.
- Excellent interpersonal skills in working with multicultural teams, and ability to engage with high-level government officials and donor representatives.
- Fluent written and oral knowledge of the English and Marathi is a must, and an understanding of the local dialect is preferable.
