Program Overview for Energy
The objective of the WRI India energy program is to inform and guide India’s transition to cleaner energy through strong research, ground-level implementation experience, partnerships with key stakeholders and communicating our work. The 5 pillars of the energy program focus on increasing clean energy demand, increasing clean energy supply, supporting sub-national energy transitions, raising the issues of materials and circularity for the energy transition and ensuring equitable development through energy transitions.
Job Highlight:
WRI India's energy program aims to inform and guide India's energy transition. The program's strategy is comprises of four pillars:
(1) Clean Energy Supply
(2) Decarbonized Energy Consumption,
(3) Energy for Equitable Development and
(4) Energy, Minerals & Circularity.
Cross cutting these pillars are issues of financing and policies and integrating the principles of equity in the program's initiatives. The Decarbonized Energy Consumption (DEC) pillar is focused on reducing energy demand through energy efficiency, promoting the integration of clean energy and use of alternative fuels in the buildings and industries sector and sustainable cooling.
The building decarbonisation and sustainable cooling initiative under the DEC pillar has been working on the implementation of the India Cooling Action Plan at the state level and achieving ICAP's vision of thermal comfort for all. The initiative is looking for someone to support research and implementation in two important areas: (1) strengthening access to sustainable cooling solutions for the most vulnerable communities and (2) strategies to manage rising energy demand for cooling.
You will work with a diverse team on these topics and report directly to the Program Head.
What will you do:
- Identify and engage key partners for convening and collaboration on delivering sustainable cooling/heat resilience solutions to the most vulnerable communities.
- Guide and support research on the impacts of sustainable cooling solutions and heat resilient infrastructure on people, nature and climate. This would also include the development of (1) analytical framework to study the solutions (2) criteria for identifying most effective sustainable cooling solutions and (3) database for knowledge aggregation and synthesis.
- Anchor collaboration and coordination with organisations on implementing sustainable cooling solutions, including end-to-end working with implementation partners and field work on the ground in several states.
- Identify and engage key government stakeholders relevant to scaling sustainable cooling interventions. Support other program colleagues in coordination and outreach related to different projects.
- Work with communications colleagues in organizing workshops and convenings, workshop proceedings and summaries of discussions.
- Support research, data collection and analysis pertaining to cooling energy use, adoption of cooling technologies, innovations in cooling and demand side management programs on cooling.
- Build a nuanced understanding of principles of sustainable cooling, barriers to scaling interventions and opportunities to expand the reach and delivery of sustainable cooling solutions.
- Perform other tasks as assigned by the program leadership and colleagues, including support on research and analysis on other energy program projects.
- Travel to the key project sites based on the project needs.
