About the Organization
IHAT was instituted in 2003 as a Charitable Trust and is registered under section 12A(a) of the Income Tax Act, 1961. It is also registered with the Ministry of Home Affairs under the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act,1976, and with the Ministry of Corporate Affairs under the Companies (Corporate Social Responsibility Policy) Amendment Rules 2021. IHAT’s vision is to meaningfully impact the lives of vulnerable and marginalised people by addressing health and social inequities. We partner with governments and communities to develop sustainable, science-driven public health programs. IHAT has worked closely with the Government of India and state governments in Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Delhi, and Bihar. Our focus areas include prevention and control of HIV and Tuberculosis, Reproductive, Maternal, Neonatal and Child Health (RMNCH), Nutrition, and health systems strengthening.
About the Fellowship
The GenEqual Fellowship aims to empower young individuals (age group of 18-29 years) from Key Populations (KPs) most impacted by HIV/AIDS. This 24-month full-time fellowship program will build leadership capacity and technical skills in gender-responsive HIV interventions through structured training, mentorship and guidance, and community-based implementation.
What GenEqual fellows will receive:
- Fellowship duration will be 24 months.
- Monthly allowance aligned with comparable fellowship programmes.
- Training in gender-responsive interventions, leadership, communications, project management, evidence-informed decision-making and more.
- Structured mentorship, peer learning opportunities.
- Exposure to community-based interventions
- Opportunities to engage and collaborate with local and state-level stakeholders.
- Guidance on the effective use of project learnings.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE FELLOWS
- Capacity Building and Learning - Participate in trainings and mentorship activities. - Actively contribute to peer-learning sessions with other fellows to exchange experiences and strategies. - Document learnings and contribute to knowledge sharing.
- Project Implementation - Implement the learnings at the field level - Design and implement community-focused, gender-responsive HIV interventions. - Maintain regular records and monitor progress using tools provided.
- Collaboration and Stakeholder Engagement - Collaborate with relevant stakeholders at the local and national level. - Represent the fellowship at relevant community and stakeholder events.
- Community Mobilization and Advocacy - Lead peer mobilization and advocacy efforts within their community. - Act as a change agent to shift social norms and promote inclusion and equity within Key Populations.
Eligibility
Are you a young leader (age 18-29 years) with a passion to lead gender-responsive HIV interventions in your own community?
Essential:
- Belong to one or more of the Key Populations (KPs) impacted by HIV, - People Who Inject Drugs (PWID), - Hijra/Transgender people (H/TG), - Men who have sex with Men (MSM), - Female Sex Workers (FSW).
- Age: Between 18-29 years
- Education: Atleast 12th pass from any recognised board in India.
- Comfortable using digital tools and has basic knowledge of MS Office. Ideally, the candidate should have their own laptop
- Location: Delhi NCR
- Language requirement: Candidate should have good communication skills. While language is not a barrier to applying for this programme, working knowledge of Hindi and English is desirable.
- Understanding of Gender & Equity: Has a basic understanding of gender and intersectional inequalities that determine HIV vulnerability in key populations.
- Motivation & Commitment: - Strong commitment to work with young key populations/community-led HIV response - Cultural sensitivity to work with HIV vulnerable communities - Willing to dedicate full-time to the fellowship
- Leadership Potential: - Ability to mobilise and inspire peers within the community to bring a meaningful change.
Desirable:
- Experience: Emerging young leaders with experience in HIV/AIDS or advocacy for key and vulnerable populations, youth advocacy, or community-led initiatives will be preferred
- Member of a local network/society/club, including for HIV/AIDS
