About the Organization

We believe that journalism is crucial to fostering living democracies across Europe. We are dedicated to advancing independent and investigative journalism that serves the public interest, furthers accountability as well as transparency, and contributes to critical thinking and informed debate.

We aim to promote and develop professional journalism in response to the challenges and opportunities stemming from increasing digitalisation, the internationalisation of political, economic and criminal power structures, and changing revenue models.

Journalismfund Europe vzw is an independent, non-profit intermediary organisation based in Brussels and founded by citizens in 1998. It was set up with the aim of strengthening democracy in Europe by facilitating independent, cross-border investigative journalism and by bringing donors and journalists or media together without endangering the journalists' independence.

About the Grant

This grant facility supports enabling activities and supporting services for environmental investigative journalism as a whole. It seeks to promote collective development and support services for environmental investigative journalism, by providing funding to project ideas from organisations and institutions for training and professional development programmes, i.e. skills-focused professional training or fellowship programmes targeted at enabling investigative journalists to upskill with regards to reporting on environment related issues.

Grant Size:

The total available amount per call to be distributed among all supported projects will be around €84,000. The total budget for 2025 is €252,000. The programme is supported by Arcadia.

Eligibility

Incorporated legal entities (organisations, companies, …) can apply with a project proposal for collective development and support services for professional environmental investigative journalism.

Individuals (natural persons) cannot apply for this grant.
