About the Organization
Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council (BIRAC) is a not-for-profit Section 8, Schedule B, Public Sector Enterprise, set up by Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Government of India as an Interface Agency to strengthen and empower the emerging Biotech enterprise to undertake strategic research and innovation, addressing nationally relevant product development needs.
Job Description
The Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Government of India, and the Gates Foundation (BMGF), united by their common goal of addressing some of the most critical global health and development issues came together and began the Grand Challenges India (GCI) initiative. The GCI was set up at Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council (BIRAC) executes and manages jointly funded programs that accelerate Indian-led innovation for pressing health and development challenges. The platform supports innovators working across key public health priorities and invests in solutions that are affordable, scalable, and capable of delivering measurable impact in India and globally.

GCI’s portfolio spans maternal and child health, infectious diseases, antimicrobial resistance, vaccines, med-tech devices and diagnostics, nutrition, WASH, and climate. The initiative is increasingly emphasizing data science and artificial intelligence, embedding data-driven and AI-enabled approaches to catalyze scalable, high-impact public health solutions
The technical assistant should be an enthusiastic and self-motivated individual, passionate about public health, particularly the application of AI in health and eager to gain hands-on experience in a dynamic, innovation-driven environment. The appointment shall be under ‘Contract for Service’ initially for a period of three (03) years or Co-terminus with the project, whichever is earlier.
The present duration of the project is till June’2027. Renewal of the contract shall depend on the extension of the Project or need for continuance of service, based on satisfactory performance.
Job Responsibilities
- Coordinate with experienced professionals at GCI–BIRAC to support activities under various programmatic schemes including AI initiatives.
- Assist the team in managing and executing projects supported under various schemes implemented by GCI–BIRAC.
- Support management of IT platforms and facilitate virtual meetings, seminars, webinars, and workshops.
- Collate and analyse data and support preparation of technical and analytical reports, documents, briefs, and presentations.
- Conduct literature reviews and compile technical information for ongoing and upcoming projects.
- Assist in preparing landscaping studies, concept notes, and RFP documents.
- Provide administrative and operational support to the team as required.
- Undertake any other tasks assigned by the GCI– BIRAC team to ensure timely and effective delivery.
Education Qualification/Required Skills & Experience
- Master’s degree in Life Sciences, Molecular Biology, Genetics, Biotechnology, Industrial Biology, or related fields.
- Degree/Certification Course in IT or Data Science.
Experience:
- Post-qualification, at least two years of experience with national or international organizations, research institutions, or start-ups.
Desirable:
- Experience in managing or operating IT platforms.
- Experience in research paper or concept note preparation, and data analysis using statistical tools.
- Strong writing, oral communication, and presentation (PowerPoint) skills.
- Additional certifications or hands-on experience in IT or data science is an advantage.
