Job Description
The Consultant – Visual Communication & Mural Design will work under the Communication and Outreach Division of SPM-NIWAS and will be responsible for conceptualizing and producing creative visual materials — with a primary focus on murals, wall art, and illustrative storytelling - to support institutional outreach and awareness efforts.
Job Responsibilities
- Developing digital illustrations, stylus-based artwork, and visual content for institutional publications, training materials, and reports.
- Creating conceptual artwork and layouts for government campaigns related to water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH).
- Designing murals, wall art, infographics, posters, banners, and visual storytelling content for both print and digital media.
- Supporting audio-visual and multimedia campaigns, including storyboarding and visual concept development.
- Coordinating with the Communication and IEC teams to ensure all creative outputs align with the branding and messaging of DDWS and the Jal Jeevan Mission.
- Assisting in exhibition and awareness zone design within the NIWAS campus or during other national events.
- Managing the digital repository of artworks and contributing to the design of creative content for training and outreach.
- Producing original artwork for framing, including hand-painted pieces, mixed media, and mural-style compositions that visually depict key WASH and development themes.
- Conceptualizing and executing wall paintings and thematic installations within the NIWAS campus or at outreach sites, ensuring artistic quality and alignment with communication goals.
- Ensuring proper documentation of original and commissioned works, including concept sketches, photographs, and final visuals for institutional records and future use.
- Manage the institute’s social media presence across platforms such as X (Twitter), Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and YouTube
Education Qualification/Required Skills & Experience
Essential
- Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts, Visual Communication, or Applied Arts from a recognized and reputed Arts institution (e.g., College of Art, NID, Shantiniketan, JJ School of Arts, or equivalent)
- Minimum 2–3 years of professional experience in digital illustration, publication design, or campaign-based art creation
- Proven expertise in stylus-based digital artwork using tools such as Procreate, Adobe Fresco, or similar
- Experience in creating murals, wall paintings, and thematic artwork for public campaigns or development projects
- Demonstrated ability to conceptualize and visualize messages creatively for different audiences and media formats
- Strong creative and artistic sensibility with a keen eye for detail and composition
- Experience in preparing and working with different wall materials and media (e.g., acrylics, spray paint, primers)
- Ability to manage on-site mural execution including coordination with vendors, fabricators, and adherence to safety and installation protocols
- Portfolio demonstrating previous large-scale wall or mural artworks to be submitted along with the application
Desirable
- Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign), Canva, and digital publishing workflows
- Experience in development communication with government, NGOs, or multilateral organizations
- Familiarity with WASH, rural development, or environment-based communication themes
- Knowledge of color theory, surface preparation, and durable materials for wall and mural art
- Comfort working collaboratively with site owners, institutional teams, and community partners during design and installation phases
- Knowledge of handling social media platforms and social media analytics.
