Nestlé India recently launched its state-of-the-art Distribution Center (DC) in Bhiwandi, Maharashtra. The Distribution Center is the embodiment of Nestlé India’s belief that technology is a driving force for progress. This is the first DC in Nestlé India to have a Digital Twin, a planning tool for the warehouse operations which helps in simulating different scenarios in a virtual environment and take actions accordingly, thus helping with better planning and preparedness.
The distribution center is also equipped with AI-enabled CCTV, Operations Command hub, digital rack inspection system, and sensor-fitted material handling equipment, thus strengthening the security system.
With approx. 20,000 pallet positions and the largest cold room for chocolate storage in the distribution center, the Company is raising the industry standards in logistics. Completed in a record time of seven months, the distribution center is equipped with state-of-the-art technology, including a dedicated repacking center and India’s first shuttle racking system – a dense racking system which helps in improved space efficiency in the warehouse. The distribution center is also completely digitally operated – thus making it a paperless facility.
Mr. Varun Gupta, Head, Supply Chain, Nestlé India said, “Efficiency, agility, safety and sustainability are integral to our value chain. These elements are achieved through a perfect ‘symphony’ of product and information flow. The Bhiwandi Distribution Center exemplifies our team’s innovation and incredible efforts bringing a combination of Optimal Automation Shuttle Racking, Digitalized Operations, Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning based synchronized planning, and unique omnichannel service offerings for our customers.”
“In line with our commitment to Net Zero goals, 25% of our cargo on the Sanand-Bhiwandi route are now powered by alternate fuel, reducing greenhouse gas emissions and enhancing efficiency. Our logistics team has launched an ‘Operations Command Hub’ and a ‘Logistics Operations Competence Center’ to further the integration of sustainability agenda in our logistics.” He further added.
This has been made possible through the continued partnership between Nestlé India and its logistics partners. As a part of the partnership, Nestlé India would continue to scale alternate vehicles on the Sanand-Bhiwandi route.
