At the heart of the organization is The Hummingbird School started in January 2017 to provide a contextual and holistic education to the children of Majuli, set up completely in partnership with the local community. Ayang grew out of the various and urgent needs of the people of Majuli and was registered in November 2017 and has since expanded its work into a diverse range of development programs. The Opportunity Key Responsibilities: Design and implement a comprehensive and age-appropriate science curriculum aligned with the school’s pedagogy and academic standards. Deliver engaging lessons across various scientific disciplines (Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Environmental Science) through hands-on experiments, demonstrations, and interactive learning. Encourage analytical thinking, observation, and problem-solving through inquiry-based and project-based learning methods. Regularly assess students’ academic progress and provide constructive feedback to support their individual learning needs. Integrate scientific concepts with practical, real-life examples to make learning relevant and meaningful. Create a safe, inclusive, and stimulating classroom environment that encourages curiosity, collaboration, and critical thinking. Plan and facilitate science-related activities such as laboratory work, exhibitions, field visits, and science fairs. Contribute to interdisciplinary teaching and collaborate with colleagues to integrate science into broader learning experiences. Participate actively in school-wide initiatives, curriculum development, and professional learning opportunities. Key Role Requirements: Patient, empathetic, and dedicated to fostering holistic student development. Passionate about teaching adolescents and inspiring curiosity and scientific temper. Skilled in designing inclusive and engaging classroom experiences that accommodate diverse learning styles. Flexible and open-minded in adapting teaching strategies to meet individual and group needs. Collaborative, with strong interpersonal and communication skills for effective teamwork. Demonstrates strong classroom management, organization, and problem-solving skills. Committed to equity and justice, grounded in love and compassion Qualifications: A graduate degree in Science or Engineering is required. A postgraduate degree in Education would be highly desirable. Minimum of 2 years of teaching experience at the secondary school level. In-depth understanding of scientific concepts across physics, chemistry and biology, and secondary-level pedagogy. Experience in conducting laboratory experiments and promoting experiential, hands-on learning. Excellent command of English. Innovative, reflective, and passionate about promoting scientific inquiry and environmental awareness among students. Strong organizational and planning abilities.
