The organization acts and advocates for a more altruistic world, catering to the needs of the most vulnerable populations. In India, we work as a part of the SRPC Trust to work in the thematic areas of Health, Education, Environment, Food Security, and Economic Development, serving the marginalised populations with a participatory and community driven approach to promote integrated development of the communities . Our India programs are spread across 3 states with a yearly budget of USD 1.5 million and team strength of 200 talented and dedicated professionals. - Location: Kolkata, India (Travel to national and international project locations)
- Reports to: Direct reporting to International Programs Director. Dotted line reporting to President of SRPC Trust.
- Supervisory role: All vertical heads of India operations.

Position Overview
The Executive Director provides strategic leadership and overall management of Karuna-Shechen's operations in India. This role is responsible for developing and implementing country-level strategy, ensuring program excellence, maintaining stakeholder relationships, and driving sustainable growth and impact across all operational areas. The role demands a critical balance of compassion and prudence, ensuring that the country programs and strategies align with core values of organisation.
Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership & Visioning (25%)
- Develop and implement comprehensive country-level strategy aligned with global organizational vision.
- Provide visionary leadership to achieve organizational mission and objectives while adhering to the core values.
- Lead strategic planning processes and ensure effective implementation.
- Drive innovation and continuous improvement across all programs.
External Representation & Stakeholder Management (20%)
- Represent the organization in various national and international forums.
- Build and maintain relationships with government officials, donors, partners, and peer organizations.
- Serve as primary spokesperson for media relations and public communications.
- Lead thematic/ sector-level partnerships.
Fundraising & Resource Mobilization (20%)
- Lead domestic and international fundraising efforts.
- Develop and maintain relationships with institutional donors, foundations, and individual supporters.
- Oversee grant writing, proposal development, and donor stewardship.
- Ensure diversified funding portfolio and financial sustainability.
Operational Management & Oversight (20%)
- Provide oversight to different functional areas like Programs, Finance and HR .
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and organizational policies.
- Monitor organizational performance against strategic objectives.
- Lead risk management and crisis response initiatives.
Team Leadership & Development (10%)
- Lead and mentor senior management team.
- Foster organizational culture aligned with core values.
- Ensure effective succession planning and talent development.
- Promote professional development and capacity building across the organization.
Governance & Compliance (5%)
- Ensure compliance with legal, regulatory, and donor requirements.
- Support board relations and governance processes.
- Maintain transparency and accountability standards.
- Oversee audit processes and organizational assessments.
Qualifications & Experience
Required
- Master's degree in relevant field (Social Science, Public Administration, Development Studies, Management, or related discipline).
- 18+ years of progressive leadership experience in non-profit sector.
- Proven track record in organizational leadership and strategic management.
- Extensive experience in fundraising and donor relations.
- Strong understanding of Indian development landscape and regulatory environment.
Preferred
- Experience leading multi-state or international operations.
- Background in health, education, or rural development sectors.
- Experience working with international donors and foundations.
- Advanced degree in relevant field.
