About the Organization

Wadhwani AI is a non-profit institute building and deploying applied AI solutions to solve critical issues in public health, agriculture, education, and urban development in underserved communities in the global south. We collaborate with governments, social sector organizations, academic and research institutions, and domain experts to identify real-world problems, and develop practical AI solutions to tackle these issues with the aim of making a substantial positive impact. 

We have over 30+ AI projects supported by leading philanthropies such as Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Google.org and Walmart. With a team of over 200 professionals, our expertise encompasses AI/ML research and innovation, software engineering, domain knowledge, design and user research.

Job Description/Responsibilities

The MERLI Fellow will support the Monitoring, Evaluation, Research, Learning, and Impact (MERLI) team in the development and implementation of Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL) frameworks across a variety of projects. The Fellow will contribute to research design, data collection, quality assurance, and dissemination activities to strengthen evidence-based decision-making and program effectiveness.

  • Support the design and implementation of MEL frameworks, work plans, and research protocols.
  • Conduct field visits and spot checks to monitor project implementation and ensure adherence to MEL standards.
  • Assist in ensuring data quality through routine checks and validation processes.
  • Support research ethics approval processes and ensure compliance with ethical guidelines.
  • Contribute to the preparation of reports, presentations, and knowledge products for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Assist in the development and dissemination of learning materials, case studies, and success stories.
  • Maintain confidentiality and uphold data privacy standards across all MEL activities.
  • Provide general support to the MERLI team and perform other tasks as assigned by the supervisor.

Education Qualification/Required Skills & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences, Public Health, International Development, Statistics, or a related field. A Master’s degree or current enrollment in a graduate program is an advantage.
  • Strong interest or background in monitoring, evaluation, and research methodologies.
  • Experience with data collection, analysis, and reporting preferred.
  • Familiarity with qualitative and/or quantitative research tools is an asset.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Commitment to ethical standards, confidentiality, and data protection.
