About the Organization

Sangath (www.sangath.in) is one of India's leading mental health research non-profit organization. It was founded in 1996 with its headquarters in Goa; major hubs in Delhi and Bhopal, and programme sites in many parts of the country. Sangath's mission and expertise lies in developing and evaluating mental health interventions to be delivered through existing public systems. Its major thematic areas are: Child development and disability; adolescent health; mental disorders; and ageing. Sangath was awarded the prestigious MacArthur Foundation International Prize for Creative and Effective Institutions in 2008 and the WHO Public Health Champions Award for India in 2016. It has completed a number of randomized controlled trials for mental disorders in India, including the only two autism trials in the country.

Job Description

The Programme and Research Coordinator will be responsible for effective functioning of the Community Engagement and Involvement workstream in NAMASTE across two programme sites, Delhi and Goa. This role will entail working closely with non-specialist workers, parents and caregivers, visual and graphic designers, early childhood development experts and public health researchers.

Post-holders will be provided opportunities for professional development in early career research and leadership building. Post-holders will also be part of Sangath’s Child Development Group (CDG), a research group comprising early childhood development researchers, health workers, social scientists, public engagement specialists to enable capacity development and foster collaboration on high-quality evidence-based research.

Job Responsibilities

Project Management

  • Plan and implement task management tools to meet project deadlines.
  • Provide line management and supervision to a team of 2 Research Associates.
  • Coordinate with CEI counterparts in Nepal and Sri Lanka for monthly updates.
  • Prepare monthly reports for funders, donors and community oversight committees.

Research activities

  • Assist in the preparation of study protocols, ethics applications and developing research materials such as consent forms, Interview formats and questionnaires.
  • Assist in the preparation of research papers for publication.
  • Design digital and paper-based data collection in support of the research protocol.
  • Coordinate and oversee field-based activities including regular site visits to Anganwadi centres to supervise data collection and delivery activities.
  • Support data collation and analysis activities.
  • Assist in the preparation and delivery of research presentations and lay summaries.
  • Carry out any administrative duties required for coordination of the research programme.

Community Engagement Activities

  • Coordinate quarterly meetings with a community advisory board to present programme updates.
  • Monitor distribution of community awareness materials, such as posters, calendars, and other multimedia at relevant sites such as prenatal and antenatal health centres, pre-schools, Anganwadi centres, etc.
  • Prepare updates from research activities to present to diverse audiences via reports, newsletters, and lay summaries.
  • Coordinate and attend regular update meetings with international programme partners in Nepal, Sri Lanka, and the UK.

Education Qualification/Required Skills & Experience

Essential:

  • Post-Graduate/ Master's degree in Social Sciences, Psychology, Counselling, Public Health, Development Studies, Anthropology and Sociology, and other related fields.
  • Minimum 4 years of full-time experience in a Researcher or Team Manager capacity.
  • Demonstrated skills in qualitative and quantitative methods including proficiency using tools such as REDCap, SPSS, Stata and R.
  • Excellent spoken and written communication skills in English and Hindi.

Desirable:

  • Experience working on a research study/project.
  • Experience of writing academic papers for peer-reviewed journals.
  • Experience of working on visual content for scientific/health communication media (e.g. social media, websites, video, magazines, policy briefs, lay reports, newsletters, newspaper articles etc.) in a variety of styles to suit different audiences.
