About the Organization

Counsel to Secure Justice (CSJ) is a nonprofit organization based in India that works to advance access to justice for children. We support child survivors of sexual harm, build restorative justice responses, and strengthen justice systems to respond in ways that are compassionate, effective, and child-centred.

Job Description

CSJ is seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented HR and Operations Manager to lead and strengthen its internal systems and operations. The ideal candidate will have experience in nonprofit human resources and operational management, with a commitment to equity, care, transparency, accountability and the values of CSJ (given on the CSJ website). The person will work closely with the leadership team and program staff to ensure a well-functioning, resilient, and legally compliant organization. They will report to the Executive Director of CSJ.

Job Responsibilities

Human Resources

  • Lead the revision and implementation of HR policies, procedures, and practices that are values-aligned and legally compliant.
  • Implement full-cycle recruitment, onboarding, and exits for staff, interns, and consultants; drafting and updating relevant documents including Job descriptions, written tests etc, in coordination with Program leads.
  • [Co] Drive performance management processes, ensuring timely annual performance evaluations and appraisals for staff, and mid-year reviews.
  • Support a positive, inclusive, and responsive organizational culture, including ensuring staff checks ins are conducted by team managers as per schedule, working with other team members to organise a monthly team circle, ensure that staff are aware of all their entitlements and raise any staff concerns with senior leadership without delay.
  • Ensure statutory compliance with labour laws (e.g., PF, ESI, POSH, Shops & Establishment Act), as well as ensuring that these policies are inculcated into the functioning of the organisation and behaviour of all employees through training, discussion and other measures as required.
  • Maintain and update employee records, develop systems for maintaining attendance register, leave records and other HR databases.

Operations and Administration

  • Oversee and strengthen administrative systems including procurement, vendor management, documentation, and IT systems.
  • Lead office management functions including leases, supplies, logistics, and facilities.
  • Support the Executive Director in developing and updating organizational policies and SOPs.
  • Support the ED and Program Leads in ensuring effective implementation of the organisation’s program review system through organising of monthly and quarterly reviews in accordance with reporting timelines.
  • Support the ED in communication and coordination with the CSJ Board, and to implement effective governance practices at all levels of the organisation.

Finance and Compliance coordination support

  • Support the Management Committee in building calendar-based timelines and coordination with agency working on finance
  • Support the Management Committee in building calendar-based timelines and coordination with agencies working on organizational compliance and registrations (e.g.12A/80G, CSR portal and others).

Education Qualification/Required Skills & Experience

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field. Master’s degree is preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience, preferably in a nonprofit or social impact organization.
  • Strong understanding of Indian labour laws and nonprofit compliance.
  • Excellent communication, coordination, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks with attention to detail and discretion.
  • Proficient in MS Office and HR tools or software.
  • Ability to handle crises calmly, and to manage logistics for large scale events.
  • Fluency in English and Hindi.
  • Commitment to CSJ’s mission, values, and work on child rights and justice.

Preferred Attributes

  • Demonstrated ability to foster an inclusive, restorative, and rights-based work culture.
  • Strong understanding of governance, compliance and program processes of Section 8 companies.
