Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Community Engagement Officer to join our team on a secondment basis, working closely with our Project Implementing Partner in Madhya Pradesh, India in a large-scale community-based afforestation project. The project aims to plant approximately 12 million trees on community and private farmer land and is in its 3rd year of plantation.
The Community Engagement Officer will be instrumental in training project partner delivering successful stakeholder engagement initiatives, this will require frequent travel throughout our project boundary to project sites and communities. The role will be responsible for supporting our project partner with community engagement and data reporting.
Job Responsibilities
Community Outreach:
- Develop and implement strategies to engage local communities in the afforestation project.
- Organize and participate in community meetings, workshops, and events to raise awareness and encourage participation.
Stakeholder Collaboration:
- Work closely with local government agencies, NGOs, and other stakeholders to ensure the project's goals align with community needs and expectations.
Educational/Communication Programs:
- Create and deliver educational/communication programs about the benefits of afforestation and sustainable practices to community members.
Monitoring and Reporting:
- Track and report on community engagement activities and their impact on the project.
- Provide regular updates to Climate Impact Partners team.
Conflict/Grievance Resolution:
- Address and resolve any conflicts or issues that arise within the community related to the project.
Documentation:
- Maintain accurate records of all community interactions, engagement activities, and project impacts (through Kobo forms, field registers, project dashboard, etc.).
- Document success stories and lessons learned to be shared with Climate Impact Partners and project partner.
Education Qualification/Required Skills & Experience
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Environmental Science, Development Studies, Public Administration, or related fields.
- Proven experience in project coordination, liaising, outreach and community engagement, stakeholder engagement, good understanding of the local communities, experience of working with farmers and local government bodies.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, in English, Hindi and/or local languages in M.P., to effectively engage with diverse community members and stakeholders.
- Strong ability to build and maintain relationships with community members and stakeholders.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.
- Strong problem-solving skills to address community concerns and conflicts.
- Understanding of environmental conservation, afforestation, agro-forestry, and sustainable development principles.
- Strong proficiency in data management and analysis and high attention to details. High IT literacy, including good skills at MS Office suite like Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
Nice to have's:
- Experience working in rural development or with grassroots organizations in India.
- Knowledge of climate finance and carbon credit mechanisms.
