Job Description
UNDP has been supporting the Government of India (GoI), Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) in meeting its national and international environmental priorities and commitments. These include close to 40 projects in the area of biodiversity conservation, sustainable resource management, climate change and chemical management. UNDP’s support focusses on technical and policy advisory, institutional strengthening and building capacities of various stakeholders to utilize natural resources in a sustainable way, while increasing resilience to climate variability and associated risks and impacts. UNDP as an accredited agency of Global Environment Facility (GEF) develops projects under different thematic areas to access funds for Government of India.
India has released the updated NBSAP and has now commenced preparation of the Seventh National Report. The Seventh National Report (NR7) is a mandatory submission under Article 26 of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD). It will provide an updated assessment of India's progress towards implementing its National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan (NBSAP), aligned with the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (KMGBF). The report is due for submission to the CBD Secretariat by 28 February 2026
Education Qualification/Required Skills & Experience
- Master’s degree in Environmental Sciences/ Environmental Management/ Environmental Technology / Environmental Economics/ Sustainability/ Engineering/ Management / Climate or Biodiversity Finance or any other closely-related field is essential.
Work Experience:
- At least 4 years of experience in development, implementation and management of projects, especially GEF projects in the areas of natural resource management, ecosystems and biodiversity
- At least 4 years of experience of working closely with State/Central Government/s in biodiversity conservation projects
- At least 4 years of experience of working on Convention on Biological Diversity related matters
Languages:
- Excellent command over written and spoken English and Hindi.
