Job Description

We are seeking a Journalist cum Producer (f/m/d) DW Tamil for Programming in Chennai, India as of 1 August 2025 or as soon as possible on the basis of a freelance contract limited for two years.

Job Responsibilities

• produce video content from concept to completion, including scripting, editing, and asset development
• use a range of video, audio, and digital tools to research, create, and edit high-quality multimedia content
• uphold the highest journalistic standards while producing engaging digital content tailored for Tamil-speaking audiences on social media
• conduct in-depth research and collaborate with video editors and social media teams to craft compelling narratives
• adapt English-language videos into Tamil, ensuring cultural relevance and authenticity
• exercise sound editorial judgment in developing story ideas and delivering accurate, impartial journalism
• meet tight deadlines while maintaining editorial excellence, demonstrating strong planning and organizational skills
• stay informed about the regional social media landscape to maximize content reach and engagement

Education Qualification/Required Skills & Experience

• a university degree in a relevant field, completed editorial traineeship, or equivalent journalistic qualification
• several years of professional experience in journalism, with a strong affinity for social media
• proven experience as a producer, especially in current events and trending topics
• excellent command of Tamil and very good knowledge of English
• strong planning and organizational abilities with a proactive, pragmatic mindset
• ability to work effectively in multicultural teams and a commitment to diversity
• willingness to travel across Tamil Nadu and work under time pressure, including weekends
