India is the second-largest fish producing nation in the world. Fisheries is a sunrise sector with varied natural resources and potential. In India, this sector engages over 14.50 million people as primary producers and millions more along the value chain. Transformation of the fisheries sector from traditional to commercial scale has led to an increase in fish production from 0.75 Million Metric tonnes in 1950-51 to 12.61 Million Metric tonnes during 2017-18 with a contribution of 8.92 MMT from the inland sector and 3.69 MMT from the marine sector.
Job Description
Jaljeevika is looking for a detail-oriented and responsible Assistant Accountant to support the financial and accounting operations of its programme in Supaul, Bihar.
Job Responsibilities
- Maintain day-to-day accounting records and financial documentation
- Record and verify bills, vouchers, invoices and supporting documents
- Maintain cash and bank records, and assist with bank reconciliation
- Support preparation of financial statements, reports and project-wise expenditure statements
- Maintain proper documentation for audits and financial reviews
- Assist in budget tracking and monitoring of programme expenditure
- Coordinate with the programme team for timely submission and verification of financial documents
- Ensure compliance with organisational financial policies and procedures
- Support the finance team with other accounting and administrative tasks as required
Education Qualification/Required Skills & Experience
Minimum Qualification
- Graduate in Commerce (B.Com or equivalent)
- Additional accounting qualifications or certifications will be preferred
Experience
- Minimum three years of relevant experience in accounting, preferably with an NGO or development-sector organisation
- Experience in project accounting, financial documentation, vouchers, bills, bank reconciliation and maintaining accounting records will be an advantage
Preferred
- Experience in accounting with an NGO, development organisation, CSR programme, FPO or other social-sector organisation will be an added advantage.
Skills & Competencies
- Good knowledge of accounting principles and practices
- Proficiency in Tally and MS Excel
- Attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to maintain systematic financial records and documentation
- Good communication and coordination skills
- Ability to work independently and alongside field and programme teams
