Background

Bihar has made notable progress in RMNCH (Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn, and Child Health) indicators, however, ensuring a continuum of care from pregnancy detection till postnatal care remains a critical challenge. To address these gaps and generate consistent, continuous and real-time insights across the entire journey from antenatal to postnatal care period, the current study Comprehensive Continuum of Care Cohort (C4) will build a robust, longitudinal tracking mechanism across the RMNCH continuum by integrating community and facility-level data sources, enabling real-time insights into service delivery quality, follow-up, and health outcomes. This study aims to understand the care-seeking behavior and trajectory of pregnant women, particularly those with High-Risk Pregnancies (HRP), from the antenatal to postnatal period through the follow up of VHSND attendees (pregnant women) from community to facility.

Field investigator is expected to observe the VHSND session site and interact with pregnant women who attended the VHSND session and one-third of third trimester pregnant women will be follow up till 42 days after delivery. Also interacting with ASHA, ANM and CHO in the selected AAM-HWC centres to understand the continuum of care service provision by them in 38 districts of Bihar. The field investigators will be responsible for data collection in her/his assigned district/blocks.  S/he will ensure complete adherence to protocol, and high efficiency and quality of data collection. They will work in close coordination with the State RMLE team (PD/ SPL/PL/ RMLE leads) and accountable for the overall success of the RMLE data collection. Based on the need they will also collect data in other than the assigned districts.

This role will be responsible for but not limited to the following:

  • Ensure strict adherence to the data collection protocol.
  • Optimize data collection efficiency by developing well-structured operational, travel, and logistics plans.
  • Complete the assigned data collection tasks within the specified timeline.
  • Maintain accuracy and representativeness in sample selection.
  • Uphold data quality by ensuring accurate and reliable data capture while administering all instruments.
  • Assist in conducting pre testing of tools.

Desirable Qualification & Experience

  • Essential:
    • Graduate or postgraduate degree in any discipline, preferred with minimum one years of relevant work experience in data collection.
    • Experience in large-scale household survey data collection and facility data collection.
    • Requirement: The candidate must possess their own Android mobile phone for data collection.
    • Must have two-wheeler with valid driving license.
  • Preferred:
    • Excellent communication skills in Hindi and local dialects of Bihar.
    • Experience in using digital data collection tools. Ability to collect data using Computer-Assisted Personal Interviewing (CAPI).
    • Strong understanding of Public Health Program (including ICDS) and exposure to different terminologies used in VHSND Programs.

  • Communication skills:
    • Able to communicate in all local and regional languages in Bihar.
    • Possess a deep understanding of the existing public health structure and VHSND framework in Bihar.
  • Travel: Willing to travel within the districts of assigned divisions
  • Location: 38 Districts of Bihar covering 9 Commissionerate
