About the Organization
India Health Action Trust (IHAT) was instituted in 2003 as a Charitable Trust with a vision to meaningfully impact the lives of vulnerable and marginalised people by addressing health and social inequities. IHAT is working towards reducing inequities by developing comprehensive and sustainable programmes to improve population health. Since its inception, IHAT has working closely with the Government of India and state governments, including Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Delhi and Bihar to achieve public health goals. Our work is focused in the areas of prevention and control of HIV and Tuberculosis, in achieving significant improvements in Reproductive, Maternal, Neonatal and Child Health, improved Nutrition among mothers and children, and strengthening health systems. We use programme science to optimise and scale public health programmes while partnering with the governments and communities.
Job Description
The District Community Coordinator will play a crucial role in providing critical oversight and implementation support to community-level interventions focused on reducing maternal and new born mortality, comprehensive primary care and health system strengthening in Shahdol and/or other geographies. This position will require close coordination with government officials, community leaders, and local stakeholders to address community centric MNCH & health system challenges, identify opportunities, and create sustainable, locally-driven solutions to close critical gaps in availability, quality and utilization of MNCH services, comprehensive primary care services, communicable, non-communicable diseases including cancers.
Job Responsibilities
Program Management and team coordination
- Under the guidance of the State Leadership Team (MP) and District Program Manager (Shahdol) the incumbent will lead the community interventions program as per agreed project plans.
- Work in close coordination with the District Program Manager to ensure that community health interventions are aligned with the IHAT’s overall program objectives. S/He will support the strengthening of health systems at the community level by identifying gaps, building capacity, and enhancing linkages with health facilities.
- Coordinate with district/sub-district level government health services to ensure smooth referral mechanisms and backward linkages to the facility level for target populations
- Oversee the day-to-day management of community-level activities and ensure the timely execution of community health initiatives.
- Lead and support a team of block community coordinator or other staff carry out project activities effectively and in line with the program’s goals.
- Provide guidance and capacity-building support to the team to enhance the quality of health interventions at the community level.
Tribal Community Engagement & Partnership Development
- Coordinate with District & Block Government Officials and other key stakeholders to identify challenges and opportunities within tribal communities, and work with tribal leaders to create culturally relevant, sustainable solutions for maternal and newborn health.
- Support the development of a tribal-specific strategy that enhances community connections and strengthens the linkage between tribal communities and the health system.
- Develop and maintain strong working relationships with district and sub-district government officials, ensuring alignment of community health efforts with government policies and priorities.
- Stakeholder Management & Advocacy
- Advocate for the needs of tribal communities and community-based health solutions, fostering collaboration between tribal leaders, health officials, and other relevant stakeholders
- Contextualize and implement program in response to local needs; Propose/Develop innovative ideas/models etc. that can improve key program outcomes.
- Attend various Government review meetings at District and Block levels to ensure that program achievements and challenges are adequately highlighted.
Community Expertise
- Expertise in working closely with community on opportunities and programs in Tribal areas of central India. Experience in empowering community members and activating community health platforms to promote health awareness, advocacy, and support services.
- Develop capacity building modules and innovative training materials / case studies / tools and other teaching aids for training of various categories of stakeholders.
- Stay updated on the latest trends and best practices in community health and maternal health interventions.
Additional Responsibilities
- Any other task as assigned by the line manager.
Education Qualification/Required Skills & Experience
- Essential education qualification: Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work or related field.
Work Experience:
- Experience working with Tribal areas and with Tribal population would be considered as essential.
- Minimum 3-5 years of proven experience at the District level managing MNCH/ Health programs in Tribal areas.
