Job Description/Responsibilities

The Policy Unit leads UNDP India’s research and advocacy on Global Goals and the national development agenda, with a special focus on environment and climate change, skill development, inclusive growth and strengthening systems for SDG localization.

  • Cleaning, processing, interpreting, and analyzing National Multidimensional Poverty Index data and unit level data -data from other relevant datasets (including but not limited to the National Family Health Survey (NFHS) to develop data-driven insights into multidimensional poverty in India and its interaction with other relevant metrics .
  • Developing interactive and static data visualizations including dashboards, and maps using tools such as Tableau, Power BI, Python or similar platforms to showcase the data and analysis.
  • Identifying key trends, patterns, and insights from the data based on development literature and internal consultations with the team
  • Develop state-specific and thematic data insights and outreach products like factsheets, policy briefs and notes, infographics and presentations for effective internal and external communication
  • Provide recommendations for improving data usability and visibility.
  • Document all data processes to ensure sustainability and reproducibility.

Education Qualification/Required Skills & Experience

  • A degree in Data Science, Statistics, Economics, Computer Science, Public Policy, or a related field.
  • A master’s degree will be considered an advantage.

Work Experience:

  • At least 2-3 years professional experience in data analysis, particularly with large-scale datasets, including national surveys and indexes (e.g., National Multidimensional Poverty Index, NFHS).
  • Proven experience in developing data visualizations, including dashboards, static and interactive maps using tools like Tableau, Power BI, and Python.
  • Demonstrated experience in generating policy-relevant insights, working with multidisciplinary teams, and aligning data analysis with strategic development objectives.
  • Basic understanding of poverty and its interaction with other development metrics, with an ability to provide actionable insights.
  • Prior involvement in documenting data processes to ensure the sustainability, reproducibility, and usability of analytical results is desirable.

Language:

  • Excellent verbal and written English skills. Strong verbal, writing and reading skills in Hindi will be an added advantage.
