The Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) was established in 1936 as the Sir Dorabji Tata Graduate School of Social Work. In 1944, it was renamed as the Tata Institute of Social Sciences. The year 1964 was an important landmark in the history of the Institute, when it was declared Deemed to be a University under Section 3 of the University Grants Commission Act (UGC), 1956.  Since its inception, the Vision of the TISS has been to be an institution of excellence in higher education that continually responds to changing social realities through the development and application of knowledge, towards creating a people-centred, ecologically sustainable and just society that promotes and protects dignity, equality, social justice and human rights for all.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Senior Associate provides strategic, technical, and operational leadership to a cohort of field-based Fellows. The role sits as the intermediate supervisory layer between programme leadership and district-level implementation, mentoring Fellows, strengthening monitoring systems, ensuring programme quality, analysing performance data, and facilitating timely resolution of field-level issues.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Supervise and mentor Mental Health Fellows: Coordinate and supervise LMHP Fellows deployed across the 4–5 districts under the respective Cluster Resource Centre (CRC), through regular coaching, mentorship, and reflective sessions to support their professional growth and on-ground performance, fostering a coaching mindset that builds fellows’ confidence , self-reflection and problem solving ability. 
• Build capacity and leadership:  Strengthen Fellows' technical knowledge and leadership capabilities through structured support, guidance, and continuous feedback, in coordination with the Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), Mumbai, the programme's knowledge and training partner.
• Monitor and Analyse Program Performance: Review implementation progress of activities and programmes under the Yudh Nashean Virudh (War Against Drugs) campaign, and analyse programme data to track performance, identify gaps, and inform course correction at the district, cluster, and state levels.
• Design and facilitate learning interventions and provide technical support: Develop training modules, learning resources, and capacity building sessions for Fellows to enhance their skills and knowledge base. Offer technical inputs on mental health practice and trauma-informed care, facilitate case discussions, and guide Fellows in applying evidence-based approaches to substance use prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation.
• Ensure quality assurance: Uphold quality standards across the cohort through regular report reviews, periodic field visits, and on-ground assessment of programme implementation at de-addiction and rehabilitation centres, OOAT centres, schools, colleges, and communities.
• Coordinate with District and State stakeholders: Work closely with district officials and relevant State-level units, including government departments, in monitoring, formulating and executing ongoing district and state projects. Build and sustain relationships with NGOs and civil society organisations engaged in mental health and substance use prevention, to strengthen referral pathways, community outreach and joint programming. 
• Support organisation of State and District level events: .Assist in planning and organising district or state level events, workshops and consultations related to mental health and substance use prevention, including coordination of logistics, stakeholders and on ground execution. 
• Drive insights and strategic inputs: Identify patterns and trends across the cohort, recommend improvements to strengthen implementation, support documentation of departmental and district initiatives  and contribute to broader programme and policy planning - assisting Data Intelligence and Technical Support Unit (DITSU) and the Mental Health Cell (MHC), Mohali in monitoring and supervision under Yudh Nasheyan Virudh (War Against Drugs) initiative and beyond.  

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

Qualification Pathway

Minimum Experience Required

• Ph.D. in Psychology / Public Health / Social Work or an equivalent discipline in Mental Health-24 months
• M.Phil. in Clinical Psychology-24 months
• Post Graduate Diploma in Clinical Psychology-36 months
• Master's in Psychology / Public Health / Social Work or an equivalent degree in Mental Health-48 months
• Other Eligibility Requirements

Maximum Age

• 35 years, as on the closing date for receipt of applications

Nationality

• Citizens of India only

Desirable

• Working knowledge of the regional language; prior experience working with Government
