About the Organization

Established in 1996, Indian Institute of Management Indore (IIM Indore) has been a leader in the field of management education, interfacing with the industry, government and PSUs. It is promoted and nurtured by the Ministry of Education, Government of India and is an institute of national importance under the Indian Institutes of Management Act 2017.

About the Grant

Anveshan, the Centre of Excellence at the Indian Institute of Management Indore, is launching its Research initiative to support academic and applied research in critical areas aligned with the Swachh Bharat Mission Urban (SBM-U) 2.0.

This initiative aims to fund impactful research projects that address complex challenges in Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH), environmental sustainability, and urban public systems. The goal is to facilitate evidence-based policy formulation, practical innovation, and entrepreneurial ventures emerging from academic insights.

Program Objectives:

• To promote interdisciplinary research and encourage collaboration between faculty, students, practitioners, and external stakeholders.
• To fund projects that develop behavioural interventions, technological tools, and policy innovations in the sanitation and waste management space.
• To support early-stage research ideas with institutional grant, enabling pilot implementation or further development.

Focus Areas of the Grant:

Proposals should align with at least one of the following domains:

• Waste Management – Solid waste, plastic waste, segregation, treatment technologies.
• Sanitation – Access, behaviour change, urban sanitation systems.
• Urban Governance – Institutional models, municipal administration, citizen participation.
• Environmental Sustainability – Circular economy, pollution control, resource efficiency.
• Behavioural Interventions – Nudges, communication strategies, social impact assessment.
• Technology & Innovation – Data tools, GIS, sensors, digital platforms.
• Public Policy – Policy frameworks, regulatory analysis, evaluation studies.

Funding Support & Program Benefits:

Anveshan provides research grants to empower impactful work in the WASH and sustainability sectors. The grant is designed to offer financial support to bring research ideas to life.

Grant of up to ₹10,00,000 per project - A maximum of 10 proposals will be selected based on merit, innovation, and alignment with Anveshan’s focus areas.

The grant covers essential research-related expenses, including:

• Research materials and resources
• Equipment and licensed software
• Travel and fieldwork
• Survey tools and data collection
• Publication, documentation, and dissemination costs

This grant is intended to facilitate high-quality research, real-world exploration, and knowledge creation that contributes to sustainable urban development and public policy.

Who can Apply

If you’re passionate about solving real-world problems in sanitation and sustainability, this is your chance to make meaningful impact.

• Faculty members, research scholars, and students from IIM Indore.
• Interdisciplinary teams including external collaborators from premier institutes and field organizations, practitioners or entrepreneurs developing solutions or exploring implementation-based research in WASH (must include one IIM Indore member).
