About the Organization

We are a volunteer-based organization, committed since 2003 to digitizing and preserving the rich cultural heritage of Panjab. With over 85 million pages digitized, we are proud to serve as the largest archival repository and resource for the Panjabi region. Our mission is to locate, digitize, preserve, collect, and make accessible the accumulated wisdom of Panjab—regardless of scripts, languages, religions, nationalities, and conditions.

About the Grant

At Panjab Digital Library (PDL), archival studies, heritage and cultural preservation, research methodology, historiography, and manuscriptology have always been at the core of our mission. We see them as the foundational elements of historical preservation and scholarly exploration. We believe they are essential to preserving humanity’s collective memory and give insights into the cultures, ideologies, and evolution of societies.

We’re excited to offer a grant opportunity to support seminars, workshops, and conferences that advance this vital field of study.

The Significance of Archival Studies, Heritage and Cultural Preservation, Research methodology, Historiography and Manuscript Studies.

• Preservation of Cultural Heritage: Archives and manuscripts—spanning fromancient religious texts to colonial-era documents—function as invaluable repositoriesofcultural identity. They safeguard marginalized narratives, indigenous knowledge, andliterary traditions from being erased, thereby ensuring that future generations haveaccess to authentic sources of their heritage.
• Academic and Research Excellence: These materials serve as primary dataforhistorians, linguists, and sociologists, facilitating evidence-based scholarship. Forinstance, digitized Mughal-era farmāns and personal correspondence fromfreedomfighters provide authentic and unfiltered perspectives, thus enriching academicdiscourse and challenging historical biases.
• Policy and Public Engagement: Archives contribute to policymaking by unveilingpatterns in governance, climate, or public health. Furthermore, they promote publicengagement through exhibitions and digital platforms, thereby democratizingaccessto history and fostering civic awareness.
• Technological Innovation: The digital era has transformed archival practices, withinnovations such as AI-driven transcription and 3D imaging significantly enhancingpreservation and accessibility. However, this evolution also presents challengesindata security and ethical curation, necessitating interdisciplinary collaboration.

Grant Details:

• Funding Scope: Up to INR 50,000.
• Eligibility: Open to Colleges/universities, research bodies, independent scholars, andcultural organizations. Collaborative proposals are encouraged.
• Themes: Proposals may address digitization techniques, ethical preservation, interdisciplinary methodologies, or community-based archiving.
