Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation of India (ALIMCO) is a Schedule ‘C’ Miniratna Category II Central Public Sector Enterprises, registered under Section 8 (Not for Profit motive) of the Companies Act 2013, (corresponding to Section 25 of the Companies Act, 1956) is functioning under the Administrative Control of Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities. It is 100% owned Govt. of India Central Public Sector Enterprises with an objective of benefiting the persons with disability to the maximum extent possible by manufacturing Rehabilitation Aids for persons with disabilities and by promoting, encouraging and developing the availability, use, supply and distribution of Artificial Limbs and other Rehabilitation Aids to the disabled persons of the country. Profitability is not the motive of the operations of the Corporation and its main thrust is in providing better quality of Aids & Appliances to larger number of disabled persons at reasonable price.

Job Description

We are looking for an experienced and visionary Lead AI Expert to spearhead Mission AI, a national initiative focused on developing and deploying AI-powered Accessibility & Assistive Technologies that empower persons with disabilities. This role involves end-to-end leadership—from concept to execution—of cutting-edge innovations using AI, data science, and inclusive design principles. The expert will be responsible for mentoring teams, collaborating with stakeholders, and delivering impactful solutions that make digital spaces truly accessible for all.

Job Responsibilities

AI Strategy & Innovation Leadership

• Define and drive the AI roadmap for accessibility & assistive technology projects under Mission AI.
• Lead R&D efforts to integrate AI capabilities like NLP, Computer Vision, OCR, and Voice AI into assistive tools.
• Conceptualize and prototype innovative digital solutions (e.g., real-time transcription, smart screen readers, gesture/speech interfaces, AI-driven alt text generation, etc.).

Team & Project Management

• Guide and manage cross-functional teams of data scientists, software engineers, and accessibility specialists.
• Ensure smooth execution of AI solutions across multiple verticals, including web, mobile, and voice platforms.
• Build and maintain technical architecture and code quality across AI projects. Ø Integration of Assistive Technologies
• Deploy and enhance existing tools such as JAWS, NVDA, VoiceOver, and Descript using AI.
• Work with frameworks like NIC’s S3WaaS, CMS platforms, and adaptive UI/UX systems to embed accessibility by design.

Compliance & Ethical AI

• Ensure all AI solutions comply with WCAG, GIGW, and Indian accessibility standards.
• Advocate for responsible AI, addressing data privacy, algorithmic bias, and inclusive design.

Stakeholder Collaboration

• Coordinate with public-sector institutions NIELIT, NGOs, Universities, Certification and accessibility certification agencies to develop Indian versions of IAAP certificate course to develop the accessibility auditors.

Education Qualification/Required Skills & Experience

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Accessibility Engineering, AI, or Master of Computer Application (MCA).
• Certification in Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Computer Vision, Accessibility Engineering, or related fields.
• Prior involvement in social impact projects, particularly in disability empowerment or inclusive tech.
• Certifications in ethical AI, accessibility compliance, or relevant open-source contributions.

Experience:

• Minimum 10 Years

Required Skills and Qualifications:

• Proven expertise in AI/ML, Deep Learning, and AI for Accessibility.
• Strong background in NLP, speech-to-text, OCR, image recognition, or human-computer interaction.
• Proficiency in Python, TensorFlow, PyTorch, OpenCV, and AI model deployment pipelines.
• Familiarity with accessibility tools and standards (WCAG, ARIA, IAAP, etc.).
• Experience managing diverse tech teams and multi-stakeholder projects.
• Excellent communication and leadership skills.
